Monroe City took advantage of a hot hand, while benefiting from Brookfield's chilly shooting, en route to a 69-36 victory in last night's varsity boys basketball conference action.
The Panthers, who shot nearly 60% from the field and drilled 12 threes, amassed at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters, building a 67-28 lead. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, were 9-of-38 from the floor on the night.
Curiously, Jayden DeJong (2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) led all scorers with 19 points and was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, where the 'Dogs were a collective 13-of-16.
Hank Parks (2 assists, rebound) scored six points, while Bryson Shoop had five points, and John Walgren (3 rebounds, 2 steals, assist) and Phoenix Jordan (5 rebounds) each added three points. Ross Ehrich contributed an assist and rebound, and Kendrell Carter and Riley Hinckle each had a rebound.
The Bulldogs (8-16, 1-6 CCC) next play in Tuesday's opening round of the district tournament.
