Hayden DeJong poured in a season-high 33 points, as Brookfield defeated Marceline, 54-40, in Thursday's boys varsity basketball action.

Despite DeJong's hot hand, a collaborative effort led to a decisive 13-0 run midway through the first quarter, propelling the Bulldogs to a lead they would not relinquish and the Tigers' demise.

With the 'Dogs up 11-9 with 3:30 remaining in the opening period, Kendrell Carter (6 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists) found DeJong (6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) inside for a layup to start the dash. DeJong hit a three on the next trip down the floor, followed by a baseline trey by John Walgren (5 points, 2 rebounds, steal). A free throw by Carter preceded a steal and driving lay-in by DeJong. The two-minute foray concluded with a Walgren deflection and Bryson Shoop (4 points, 2 assists, steal, rebound) steal and score. The Tigers ended the spurt with a three just before the period ended, but the damage was done, and the Tigers got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Hank Parks (10 rebounds, assist, steal) and Ross Ehrich (2 rebounds, steal) each scored three points, and Phoenix Jordan added four boards and a steal.

Coldon Parrent pumped in a game-high 17 points - all in the opening half, as Brookfield tamed the Tigers, 55-17, in the boys JV contest.

Riley Hinckle (12 points) continued the offensive onslaught in the second half with four threes for the Bulldogs, whose full court press led to a 35-11 first-half advantage.

Phoenix Jordan scored nine points, Wyatt Garber had eight points, Ky'Ree Jordan added five points, and Bryson Shoop chipped in four points.

The Bulldogs (5-8) welcome Palmyra on Tuesday, and the JV Bulldogs (4-1) host South Shelby on Monday.
