Brookfield upended South Shelby, 27-19, in the nightcap of yesterday's middle school boys basketball doubleheader, earning a split with the Cardinals.

Alex Bennett scored a game-high 11 points, and Brock McLaury added nine points to pace the Bulldogs, who held a slim 18-17 lead after three quarters. Layne Hoerrmann scored all three of his points and McLaury added a three, fueling a 9-2 fourth-quarter run to pull away.
Ronnie Sharp also had three points, and Jaxon Sibley chipped in a free throw.

The young Bulldogs struggled early in the "B" contest; however, they rebounded with more confidence as the game wore on, running the offensive more effectively and getting good looks, while limiting the Cards' scoring opportunities.

The Bulldogs visit Chillicothe on Friday.
